Enabling unrestricted gait training in a 3-dimensional space
The FLOAT is a new dynamic multidirectional overhead body weight support (BWS) system that supports patients with gait impairments in the training and rehabilitation of their natural locomotion.
It allows patients after stroke, spinal cord or brain injuries, incomplete paraplegia or orthopedic patients to relearn walking and safely train in an unrestricted three-dimensional space.
It’s unique flexibility to adjust to a patient’s needs makes it the ideal system for faster and more efficient gait rehabilitation through a versatile training of Activities of Daily Living without the risk to fall.
The FLOAT allows a safe training of the patient within a 3-dimensional space up to 15x5x5m where the patient can move freely and unrestricted in all directions, including rotating around their body axis.
The FLOAT supports patients up to 185kg weight and 2m height and offers a highly motivational freedom to relearn walking in a protected environment.
A flexible and task specific dynamic body weight support smoothly follows all movements and enables a versatile training without limiting restrictions.
Therapists have free access to the patient without the need to carry the weight of the patient thus ensuring a maximum effectiveness of the training and less strain for therapists.
Safe training scenarios for “Activities of Daily Living”
The unique multidirectional freedom of the FLOAT allows to combine the system in an open space with a treadmill or tools like stairs, ramps, balance plates or virtual reality projectors.
The dynamic Body Weight Support enables a correct posture while exercising a broad range of training scenarios in a three-dimensional space, including sit-to-stand exercises or walking up and down stairs.
A dynamic fall protection ensures a safe training environment for the patient at any time.
Gait Therapy made easy, yet effective – The FLOAT saves time and resources
The FLOAT is easy to set up and can be handled with only one therapist where traditionally two therapists are needed.
Options such as touch displays on walls and a mobile handheld allow the therapist to focus on the patient and not on handling the system.
Horizontal forward or sideward forces as well as the ability to train balance allow to challenge the patient and improve training intensity while keeping a safe environment.
Virtual Reality for training of “Activities of Daily Living”
An upcoming new option is a modular Virtual Reality projector solution which allows to challenge the patient with different simulations of “Activities of Daily Living” in nearly real environment.
The projection of exercises on the floor not only enhances concentration and motivation of the patient, it also offers an ideal safe intermediate step before walking in an unprotected environment.
Various training scenarios in combination with other features of The FLOAT allow to adapt the training to the abilities of the patient.
